In-House Insights programme
expands
Support for our In-House Insights programme has grown over the last 12 months as we continue to welcome in-house lawyers from a range of sectors to join our General Counsel-led community.
The network formally launched at the end of 2022 to support General Counsel and in-house lawyers at all levels with practical insights and a community to facilitate connections, share common issues and identify opportunities across different themes and topics.
Our first panel event featured GCs and Heads of Legal from The Restaurant Group, Marshmallow, Acora and Meggitt plc, and discussed the strategic evolution of the in-house role, operational trends and top tips for working with external counsel. Other past or planned events have included net zero transition planning for property-intensive businesses; how sustainability and environmental, social and governance (ESG) opportunities and challenges are shaping the role of in-house counsel; and legal ops and legal tech.
We partnered with a legal consultancy to formulate the programme and are expanding it in 2024 with tailored roundtable events targeting specific sectors and levels of experience. Events scheduled for spring 2024 include a GC-led interactive workshop addressing the law firm panel review process and a discussion session featuring GCs talking about how they have built and managed high performing teams.
The initiative, spearheaded by our Commercial Partner Megan Paul, has attracted lawyers from across industry, including consumer; technology; real estate; finance; sport; and media and entertainment, as well as a number of Charles Russell Speechlys alumni.
“When we host these events, our voice is often the quietest – and it’s right that it should be,” says Partner Megan Paul. “We are simply using our convening power as a private practice to bring people together and to encourage sharing of insights to enable the community to network and learn from one another.
“However, we want to encourage a dialogue between in-house lawyers and external counsel so that we know what our clients need before they need it. We want to make sure the programme offers up-to-date thinking, quality networking and the platform to talk through the critical issues our clients are facing on a day-to-day basis.”

It’s a great opportunity to generally discuss with people in the same industry as you, and find out the sort of issues they have.

That ability to connect, to build trust and to be able to bounce ideas off them [the network] in the future, to me, is exceptionally valuable.
