Our Private Office: A new model of client engagement and collaboration
Our Private Office launched in October 2023 to strategically support new and existing clients across both their private and business ambitions.
Marcus Yorke-Long joined our Firm to spearhead this full-time relationship-focused unit, which we believe is unique within the legal sector. Working alongside Marcus are: Camilla Sadler, who has been with our Firm for 15 years and is the fifth generation of her family to do so; Lord Andrew Hay, Chairman to the Private Office; Rob Garrett, who advises across Asia; Carleen Wood, Private Office Executive, and Alistair Henderson, our Private Capital Intelligence Researcher.

This team of non-lawyers invest their time ‘off the clock’ to understand clients’ strategic ambitions, align our global team of legal experts, and optimise our client service. Marcus reflects that this client-centric function mirrors the banking industry’s well-established ‘one lens’ client coverage model, often applied to large sponsor clients, sovereigns, single family offices and exceptional entrepreneurs.
“The focus is on being closely engaged with the decision makers of private capital and aligned to their strategic ambitions across a complex range of personal and business interests. We’re not here to provide the legal advice; we’re here to make sure that, as a Firm, we apply a holistic perspective that leverages maximum benefit to our clients from our full-service and global platform,” he says. This need can be particularly important for Single Family Offices and global UHNW clients, whose affairs typically come with a high degree of complexity. It is also valuable for entrepreneurial clients generating significant wealth who now require expert advice across a broad range of legal disciplines, and help navigating the landscape of advisors 'beyond the law'. As non-lawyers, the Private Office’s ability to support with broader conversations transforms the traditional client narrative, suggests Marcus.
We know law is embedded in every event, every piece of advice, every transaction that clients might be undertaking. We’ve observed that our ability to be proactive, and present relevant expertise and value-generating ideas from within our Firm is directly linked to having broader and deeper strategic conversations. In essence, we're always asking: what do our clients need, what do we offer and how do we bring it to them?”

The Private Office concept underpins our Firm’s commitment to creating meaningful relationships with clients, responding to the ‘value-based billing’ demands of the sector. Having observed this over the years, Camilla Sadler adds, “our unique role means we can appreciate the many, often challenging, dynamics at play; and draw upon specialist legal expertise to deliver thorough, timely, contextualised solutions."
