Reputation Management

When you find yourself caught in the unwelcome glare of the media spotlight, you need immediate advice and support.

Our ‘out of hours’ policy means we can quickly intervene when a problem such as invasion of privacy, defamation, or damage to reputation occurs. Wherever possible we try and avoid attention-grabbing litigation and aim to get the right results using persuasion and negotiation. We can do this because of our close relationships with top media outlets and media regulatory bodies. When court proceedings are unavoidable, we aim to win substantial damages and vindications for our clients; or obtain injunctions where appropriate.

Key contact:

Their work is scrupulous and transparent. They always reply to a query immediately, respond with an analysis within hours, and know the media sector very well."

Our experience includes:

Settling more than 30 phone hacking claims against MGN Limited (now Reach PLC – The Mirror, The Sunday Mirror and The People) for unlawful gathering of private and confidential information through phone hacking. We remain a key member of the core group of solicitors in the ongoing voicemail interception litigation, having achieved some of the highest settlements in this litigation to date, and continue to fight hard to obtain proper and substantial compensation for our clients.

Successfully acting for the president of an international sports federation in a criminal prosecution for defamatory publications on the internet that were published in August 2022. In July 2023, we obtained a criminal conviction against the authors of the publications and their removal from the respective media sites.

Acting for a professional footballer when national newspapers were threatening to publish a story about his private life. We worked with our client and his agent to successfully preventing the publication of a potentially defamatory story.
